Increasing Nutrients in Convenience Products

Let’s face it if you want to get healthy foods into your cart grocery shopping in supermarkets can be a tough challenge.

Choosing fresh or frozen organic vegetables is the easy part but if you want to enjoy the ease of some convenience products it needs some label reading. What is indeed a science in itself.

I get it, life get’s busy…here my suggestion how to make a healthy version of Mac’n Cheese when you need a quick fix.

Annie’s pasta has organic ingredients and doesn’t use artificial flavors, chemical colors and preservatives. If you occasionally need a fast solution I would recommend that brand. They also offer gluten-free and vegan versions.

Sure, it can be done without buying packaged food, therefore, keep in mind to cook the real deal on days with more time to show your kids that all can be done from scratch as well.

Besides thinking it’s more convenient, kids are often magically attracted by these packages so let’s make it more nutritious by adding grass-fed ghee/butter, collagen powder, and egg yolk.

-> Egg yolk provides protein, valuable vitamins (A, D, E, and K), omega-3 fats, antioxidants (lutein and zeaxanthin), choline, folate and vitamin B12.

-> Collagen powder dissolves and is tasteless. It contains many amino acids, heals the gut, promotes healthy joints and bones, and contains glycine which is a balancing source of protein. It turns out that studies have found that glycine improves sleep, decreases anxiety and calms the mind.

-> Grass-fed ghee or grass-fed butter. The difference is that ghee has a more “buttery” taste and a higher smoke point compared to butter because it doesn’t contain casein and lactose. Both have the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K and many nutrients important for gut and bone health as well as decreasing inflammation. K2 is protective against tooth decay and promotes proper growth and development.

Cook the noodles and sauce following the instructions on the package. Take off the heat and let cool down. Add 1 tbsp of grass-fed butter or ghee and 1 tsp collagen powder. Incorporate carefully 1 egg yolk and ensure it does not curdle.

Always serve some freshly cut vegetables with meals. ENJOY!
